Coronavirus infection in Amstelveen
On 5 March 2020, the RIVM announced in their daily update that a staff member of the OLVG hospital was infected with the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This is evident from the second standard test performed by the RIVM. This staff member is a citizen of Amstelveen and was on holidays in northern Italy. This citizen is currently staying in home isolation.
The Municipal Health Authority and the OLVG immediately started a contact investigation yesterday. This means that an outline will be set up of everyone who has been in contact with this person. The Municipal Health Authority conducts the contact survey among private contacts, and the OLVG among patients and staff. The Municipal Health Authority carefully monitors the health situation of the people who have had contact with the infected person for the next two weeks. The Municipal Health Authority moreover remains in close contact with the infected person and the authorities involved. The OLVG announced today that no employees of the OLVG have been infected by their colleague. The contact survey among patients is still ongoing.
The RIVM, the Municipal Health Authority, the Amsterdam-Amstelland Safety Region and the municipalities work closely together to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Mayor Tjapko Poppens says: "We are constantly in consultation with each other and monitor the situation vigilantly. We consider what is needed from one moment to the next. According to the national guidelines, taking any extra measures is not necessary for the time being. I obviously do hope that this resident will soon recover".
