How can you help Ukraine?
The war in Ukraine is affecting us all, considering that many Ukrainians are fleeing. Amstelveen wants to contribute to the reception of refugees from Ukraine as well. It is heartwarming to see that so many Amstelveen residents are already reaching out to help or hearten people in Ukraine.
We have received many questions from our residents. Please find the most frequently asked questions and answers below:

Approximately 360 people are currently lodged at the Ibis Hotel and the Adagio Aparthotel. The Amstelveen shelter facilities are full. Refugees from Ukraine who are still arriving will be referred to the humanitarian service point in Amsterdam from now on, who will help them to find a shelter facility for them in the region. As of March 22, the humanitarian service center where refugees from Ukraine must report will be moved from the RAI to Amsterdam Central Station.

I am lodging refugees at home. Do they have to be registered at the municipality?
Yes, it is important to register refugees, who are temporarily staying at your address, at the munic-ipality so that they can be eligible for services such as education. To register a minor we need the permission of the guardian. To register, you need to make an appointment by phone (020 - 54 04 911) with the municipality (migration department). To register at your address, you will need the permission of the principal occupant.
I want to rent out my second house to refugees, is this allowed?
You may rent your (second) house to one single household, for example to a family, or to two persons who do not form a household together. No permit or registration is required for this. If you want to rent out a house to more than two people who do not live in the same household, which is called 'House sharing through roombased rental' (Woningdelen via kamergewijze verhuur), you will require to apply for a permit.
If you want to rent out one or more rooms in your home, you can do that so as well, based on the regulation 'House sharing through landlord/landlady roombased rental' (Woningdelen via hospitaverhuur en inwoning). As long as you comply with the requirements and continue to use at least 60% of your home yourself, you can do so without a permit or having to report it. You can find all home-sharing requirements at: www.amstelveen.nl/woningdelen.
