Living allowance for Ukrainian refugees
Pending the final scheme to be adopted by the central government, the municipality of Amstelveen has been starting to provide living allowances to Ukrainian refugees. By living allowance we mean an allowance to cover for food, clothing and other personal expenses. The municipality will start the scheme on Wednesday, April 6.
Ukrainian refugees living in Amstelveen can apply for a living allowance from the municipality as of Wednesday, April 6. The central government is working on a scheme, but considering this could still take some time, the municipality has decided to make an early start. Many refugees are running short on funds and depend on donations from residents and institutions. The municipality aims to enable refugees to independently meet their basic personal expenses.
Amount of living allowance
Living allowances are provided to refugees from Ukraine who are registered in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP) of the municipality and have opened a bank account. A distinction is made between refugees in the municipal shelter facilities and refugees staying with private persons. Refugees in municipal shelter facilities will receive € 205 for food, and € 55 for clothes and other personal expenses, per person per month. For now, they receive the allowance for food in kind at the hotel, in the form of meals. Refugees staying with private persons, in turn, will receive € 215.00 per person per month for their stay (and € 55.00 per child under the age of 18). Upon implementation of the scheme, the municipality will start with refugees staying with private persons, considering they have not received anything yet.
Local Working Budget Ukraine
The pre-payment of the living allowance is covered by the Local Working Budget Ukraine. The central government has announced that it will reimburse all costs incurred by municipalities. The amount provided by the municipality as a living allowance is the same amount as the central government will provide later on.
