Waste collection
Amstelveen highly values a good environment and subsequently has many parks, water gardens and green areas. Care for the environment in and around the house is also part of the pursuit of an attractive environment. To this end, the municipality of Amstelveen conducts a system of separate waste collection.
Mini-containers
Every household (low-rise buildings) owns three mini containers: Grey for Plastic, Metal/tin cans and Drinking cartons (PMD). Green for organic waste, vegetable, fruit and garden waste. Blue for paper and cardboard. For high-rise buildings there are underground PMD and residual waste containers in the nearby area. See 'Underground containers' below for more information.
For glass, batteries and textiles there are special containers located throughout the town.
Your PMD may be placed in the free PMD bags from the city. These will keep your PMD container nice and clean. You can also use your own transparent bags. PMD bags can be obtained free of charge from:

Underground containers
Residents of high-rise homes bring their waste to underground containers. To enable efficient recycling the various categories of waste are collected in separate underground containers. These containers for glass, paper, textile and PMD are found throughout Amstelveen and can be accessed freely. The waste that remains – residual waste – can be deposited in the underground residual waste containers. These containers can only be accessed using a waste card. Each address is assigned two residual waste containers; only these containers can be opened with the waste card.
Where to find your nearest underground container
To check for the nearest underground container of any category or to confirm which residual waste containers can be accessed with your waste card you can use the map below.
Please click on the arrow in the top left of the map to open the menu. Click on ‘zoeken’ to unfold the option to enter your address. After filling in your address and pressing ‘zoek’ the map will show the two residual waste containers assigned to your waste card and all underground containers in your area.
Alternatively it is possible to find the locations of the underground containers by visiting the AfvalWijzer or using the AfvalWijzer-app.
